Larsen & Toubro First to Adopt Intransa's Full-Featured, Enterprise Class IP-Based Storage Area Network

IP5000 Storage System Relieves Management and Cost Concerns for Customers Consolidating High Volume Server and Storage Applications; L&T Hazira Works, Recognizes Benefits as New IP5000 Customer

Bangalore, India — 19 March 2004

Intransa, the global leader in IP-SAN storage, announced today that Larsen & Toubro, India's largest engineering and construction conglomerate, has decided to deploy an IP-Storage Area Network (IP-SAN) based on Intransa IP5000 storage solution, at its heavy engineering unit in Hazira to simplify management and ensure high availability of its rapidly growing information assets.

As a globally respected and diversified industrial organization, L&T brings over six decades of experience, technological sophistication and a strong customer orientation to its businesses. The heavy engineering business units, located at Hazira and Powai, design and manufacture equipment & machinery to meet the needs of chemical, petrochemical, refinery, fertilizer, power, cement and various other industries around the world.

In its quest to provide quality and swift service to its customers, L&T implemented a Thin Client solution that necessitated a centralized and scalable storage solution at its back end — something that the existing direct-attached storage system was unable to provide. After an extensive evaluation of various DAS, NAS and fibre-channel based storage solutions, L&T selected an Intransa IP5000 based IP-SAN solution.

V A Khargonkar, Asst. General Manager, IT, L&T, observed, “ We found the IP-SAN solution from Intransa to be a technically superior solution with a significantly lower TCO.”

With the state-of-art Intransa IP5000, L&T expects to have a clearer view of its storage resources that includes a cluster of Intel servers, each with their own direct attached backup devices, from a single GUI. Intransa’s IntraStor™ architecture allows L&T to manage the networked storage from anywhere in the network. Key storage management functions such as the virtual volume manager, mirroring and snapshots can all be implemented now from within the network itself. Future growth in data sizes can now be easily managed by attaching additional storage or controller modules to the Ethernet network.

“With the IP-SAN solution, we expect to easily manage our storage resources and deliver high data availability across the network. And all this at significantly lower costs per megabyte of data stored” Mr. Khargonkar adds.

On the other key criteria for choosing the IP-SAN solution, Mr. Khargonkar said, “We were keen on a solution that made use of our existing skills sets. We were delighted to find, during the Pilot Phase, that the IP-SAN solution from Intransa could be implemented and managed with no major training requirements for our staff. This certainly made a big difference.”

Udi Paret, VP Global Operations, Intransa Inc, said, “L&T is known for its commitment to quality and excellence in customer service. Having automated a large part of its design and manufacturing process, L&T recognizes the need for a networked storage environment that delivers high data availability, ease of scalability and management of storage resources. We are pleased to partner with L&T in this effort.”

Intransa will support all its Indian customers from its rapidly growing development engineering and customer solutions group based in Pune.

“Our focus is to meet the emerging needs of the enterprise customer and provide them with productive solutions. With reputed vendors like Intransa we are able to offer cutting edge technological solutions to our customers” said Mr. PK Krishna Prasad, CEO, SES Technologies. “Intransa’s IP5000 Storage System enables customers to experience the functionality and scalability of an enterprise-class IP-SAN at a dramatically reduced price-point”.

About Intransa

Intransa, Inc. is the leading innovator of shared, scalable and simple external IP storage solutions for video and IT storage. A single DVR can benefit from Intransa storage, increasing reliability and retention while reducing video surveillance cost.

Based in San Jose, CA, Intransa offers scalable, high performance security-grade storage with outstanding availability and price/performance, with built in Set-and-Forget Management for proven ease of use. The company's Video Storage Administrator toolkit is the first in the industry to configure external storage for use in video surveillance and other physical security applications without requiring extensive IT storage knowledge for maximum benefit. Instead, the VSA is configured and administered using familiar frame rate, resolution, retention period and other physical security terms.

Beginning as a 3Com spin-off, Intransa has been shipping shared IP network storage solutions since 2003. Intransa IP storage is available worldwide through authorized StorPartner security and systems integrators.
