Intransa Provides Speedy Delivery of Storage Capacity and Performance to Money Mailer

Direct Marketing Firm Chooses Intransa IP Storage System to Consolidate Nightly 2 TB Backup of Growing Customer and Advertiser Database, Increasing Flexibility and Ease of Use

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Dec. 14, 2004

Intransa, the global leader in enterprise IP SAN storage systems, announced today that Money Mailer, LLC, a leading direct marketing firm with a projected 140 million mailings planned this year, has purchased the new Intransa IP5500, a flexible and scalable IP-based storage area network (SAN). The Intransa IP5500 provides Money Mailer increased ease of use in consolidating the 2 Terabyte nightly full backups of their production database, housing crucial customer and advertiser records. Money Mailer is now able to back up and retain all its data for archiving purposes. With the on-the-fly expandability of the Intransa IP5500, Money Mailer is able to easily grow the size of its storage capacity to support future business growth.

Money Mailer, with a roster of 30,000 advertisers each year, has significantly simplified the management of its storage. Using the Intransa IP5500, Money Mailer has been able to deliver performance and capacity on demand without impact to production systems. As its storage needs increase, Intransa’s StorControl software allows Money Mailer to add a new module to the IP5500 without taking critical systems offline.

“At Money Mailer, we evaluated a number of different approaches to handling our large backup challenge, knowing that our existing direct-attached storage was not scalable enough to handle projected growth. We were often forced to purge old backups every 90 days to make room for new backups,” said Frank Migliaccio, director of network operations at Money Mailer. “Removing this step has cleared the path for us to proactively focus on the growing needs of the business. The Intransa IP5500 provided us the flexibility and ease of use we needed in an IP-based SAN. Leveraging our existing IP infrastructure helped us lower total cost of ownership and still meet our storage challenges. The Intransa IP5500 makes the most of the investment we made in our existing network to add block-level storage capacity when we need it, without being locked into a box.”

“IP SAN is now a serious alternative for mid-market businesses who are not interested in investing in brand new infrastructure for their storage,” said Ed Ginty, executive vice president, business development, VLSystems. “Our business is to help customers evaluate their options. They understand that they can harness the power of their existing IP network with Intransa’s IP5500 SAN system, to scale storage capacity and performance to support their business requirements for the future. But seeing how much easier and faster it is to implement has significant impact on resolving their pain points today.”

“Our customers are best equipped to decide how they add and allocate storage capacity for their business needs. The flexibility of our StorControl™ software allows customers to align their storage capacity with those critical business requirements, within their existing networking investment, said Ravi Pendekanti, vice president of global marketing and services, Intransa. “Without ripping and replacing what they’ve already built, customers such as Money Mailer have adopted the Intransa IP5500’s modular storage approach to increase the flexibility of their storage environment, simplify its management, and provide a storage infrastructure that scales to help them plan for and deal with their future business requirements at lower total cost.”
