Intransa enables IBM storage subsystem scalability and completes testing under the IBM TotalStorage Proven™ program

SAN JOSE, Calif. – May 5, 2005

Intransa, the global leader in network-centric, enterprise IP-storage systems, announced today that its StorControl® management platform has successfully completed interoperability testing with IBM’s TotalStorage DS300 iSCSI storage subsystem and has been confirmed as IBM TotalStorage Proven. The IBM TotalStorage Proven program builds on IBM's already extensive interoperability efforts to develop and deliver products and solutions that work together with third party products.

“This program provides Intransa with pre-tested solutions and configurations,” said Peter Wang, founder, vice president and CTO, Intransa, Inc. “Our participation in the program demonstrates that Intransa and IBM are each focused on customer satisfaction by promoting greater interoperability.”

By certifying the seamless integration of the entry-level DS300 storage subsystem into Intransa’s patented StorControl storage clustering technology, IBM customers can now pool their storage into the world’s first network-centric, buy-as-you-grow storage network. Originally a limited-scalability, small workload solution used to create separate islands of storage, customers can now use DS300s to span the entire range of storage from small workgroup environments to clustered, high-performance, mission-critical environments found in large enterprises.

Because of StorControl’s industry leading, on-demand virtualization technologies, customers are no longer tied to managing multiple DS300s as separate islands of storage subsystems. As the first in the industry to certify management interoperability of other iSCSI subsystems, IBM and Intransa customers can now take a network-centric view and manage their storage as a single pool of iSCSI resources that can be provisioned to meet application performance and scaling requirements.

“By demonstrating interoperability with other iSCSI devices, Intransa demonstrates its commitment to open standards and true, open storage based on affordable IP technology,” said Mr. Wang. He added, “The StorControl management platform now virtualizes multiple storage subsystems into a single, seamless pool of storage that IT administrators can easily provision to cost-effectively scale and meet application requirements.”

“This is another milestone in the growth of iSCSI SAN adoption,” said Tony Asaro, senior analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group. “iSCSI is past the early adopter stage and is now entering the early mainstream. We know of thousands of implementations and Intransa has been one of the leading storage vendors driving the success of iSCSI SANs. The interoperability certification is good for customers because it combines compelling technology from Intransa with IBM, one of world's largest storage vendors.”

“We welcome Intransa's iSCSI-based storage clustering technology and capability to virtualize multiple iSCSI subsystems for IBM's DS300 disk platform, allowing our customers to meet a wide variety of enterprise storage needs,” said Alex Yost, director of High Volume Systems, xSeries.

The IBM TotalStorage Proven program supports the ability of independent hardware and software vendors to build high-quality solutions with the latest technology on leading storage platforms as well as reduce solution design time when multiple, tested building blocks have already been pre-tested.

About Intransa

Intransa, Inc. is the leading innovator of shared, scalable and simple external IP storage solutions for video and IT storage. A single DVR can benefit from Intransa storage, increasing reliability and retention while reducing video surveillance cost.

Based in San Jose, CA, Intransa offers scalable, high performance security-grade storage with outstanding availability and price/performance, with built in Set-and-Forget Management for proven ease of use. The company's Video Storage Administrator toolkit is the first in the industry to configure external storage for use in video surveillance and other physical security applications without requiring extensive IT storage knowledge for maximum benefit. Instead, the VSA is configured and administered using familiar frame rate, resolution, retention period and other physical security terms.

Beginning as a 3Com spin-off, Intransa has been shipping shared IP network storage solutions since 2003. Intransa IP storage is available worldwide through authorized StorPartner security and systems integrators. Intransa is an Axis Communications Applications Development Partner, Cisco Ecosystem Provider, Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, and VMware Technology Alliance Partner along with many other industry partnerships through our StorAlliance Technology Partner program.
