Intransa Video and Data Management & Retention™ (VDMR) Technology

Simple Solutions For Advanced, Reliable Physical Security

The award-winning Intransa VideoAppliance™ family is designed specifically for the needs of physical security, including video surveillance, video analytics, access control, industrial video and other critical applications. At the core of the appliance family's success is our patented Video and Data Management & Retention™ (VDMR) technology.

VDMR addresses the unique needs and requirements of physical security users and applications. It blends advanced server modules with integrated, scalable storage modules in a simplified, affordable, and easy to install and operate package.

The result is that VDMR technology enables Intransa VideoAppliance™ to deliver complete, risk-free solutions that outperform commodity servers and storage, while reducing cost and operational challenges common to physical security.

VDMR solutions can be critical for security departments in today's challenging times. Yet physical security has recently undergone many changes, with surveillance, access control & video analytics technologies taking on an ever more important role. With current global economic uncertainty, security departments, CSOs, and entire organizations are facing new mandates and are required to do more, for less, than ever before.

Problems Solved by Intransa VDMR Technology

In order to meet these requirements affordably and reliably, security departments are often turning to IP technology. Unfortunately, deploying IP effectively often requires rip-&-replacement of existing analog CCTV infrastructure, adding disruption, risk of project failure and significant cost.

And the complexity of the commodity servers and storage often used in IP deployments, instead of familiar analog DVR setup and administration processes, also is an unpleasant surprise many security departments are not prepared for.

Security departments are also forced to deal with an ever growing variety of system configurations and face resulting support challenges. This is caused in part because commodity server and storage hardware is designed for IT workloads like email and word processing, not for non-stop video recording and playback. That in turn often leads to system sizing and configuration errors, with long term negative impact on overall system performance and reliability.

Compounding the challenge, commodity storage design assumes frequent system tuning and ongoing maintenance, and when that doesn't occur, system performance degrades and may fail altogether. Combined with low performance hardware, these systems often prove not to be the best choices to protect people, facilities and investments.

These challenges and issues are all solved by deployment of Intransa VideoAppliance™, thanks to our proven, physical security-designed VDMR technology.

Critical VDMR Features

Multi-Mode Support

  • Enables a single Intransa VideoAppliance™ Server/Storage Appliance to run multiple applications just like on separate systems, replacing multiple commodity servers & storage systems
  • Duo-Mode: Runs one physical security application, such as a VMS, access control or video analytics, while another mode runs the server/storage component with full VDMR & VSA capabilities; replaces one commodity server & storage
  • Tri-Mode: Runs two physical security applications, such as VMS, access control or video analytics, while another mode runs the server/storage component with full VDMR & VSA capabilities; replaces two commodity servers & storage
  • Flex-Mode: Runs three, four, or more physical security applications, such as VMS, access control or video analytics, while another mode runs the server/storage component with full VDMR & VSA capabilities; replaces three, four or more commodity servers & storage

Video Surveillance Optimization (VSOP)

  • Outperforms commodity servers and storage for video, increasing recording/playback performance & ensuring always-ready availability
  • Eliminates fragmentation of recorded video and data for improved long term recording & playback
  • Reduces overall storage requirements & equipment needs for lower energy, heating and cooling usage

Video System Administrator (VSA) Console

  • Simple to use management GUI interface for Server Appliances, Storage Appliances & Server/Storage Appliances
  • Uses familiar security terms, without complicated IT terminology or the need for IT expertise & management

VSA Storage Manager

  • Manages and monitors storage capacity, individual components and entire appliance platforms
  • Enables plug-in, modular capacity growth without rewiring or halting operations, for limitless total capacity
  • Eliminates need for system downtime for maintenance
  • Supports and manages advanced RAID protection for no video loss operation
  • Supports and manages hot-swap disks and power supplies for non-stop recording and playback

VSA Energy Manager

  • Selectable spin-down disk technology allows long term data & video retention savings of up to 70% in energy consumption & HVAC needs. Ideal for data or video that needs to be retained and protected, and but can be delayed for approximately 10 seconds after selection instead of instant playback or reading. For large archives, historical video or long term storage this is an ideal solution.

VSA System Center

  • Manage one - or multiple appliances, regardless of how many or how large the system requirement - with a single, powerful graphical user interface (GUI) management screen interface. No matter how many Intransa VideoAppliance™ modules you add, systems can grow from as little as 2TB up to 1.6PB (1,600TB) of capacity without having to manage multiple boxes. That reduces management overhead and complexity, without requiring an overly expensive system platform to be deployed.

VSA Tiered Availability

  • Selectable Standard, Fault Resilient & High Availability data protection, supported by advanced Intransa VDMR multi-level RAID technology. The benefits are many. For example, with a single Intransa VideoAppliance™, this capability allows part of a surveillance system covering a low-intensity area such as a parking area or loading dock to be fully monitored and recorded video protected in a cost effective Fault Resilient manner. In the event of equipment failure, the recorded video would remain protected and be viewable again after recovery of the system. But if the same facility had a critical area - such a maternity ward in a hospital or medical center, where video must always be available instantly no matter what - a portion of the same appliance system could be set as a High Availability environment. By doing so, customers can select the level of video playback availability they need with a single, powerful and affordable appliance, and save money and reduce both server and storage needs with specific choices tailored to their environment. Once size fits all of a Standard, Fault Resilient or High Availability configuration is no longer the case!

VSA Traffic Manager

  • Manages multiple IP 1 & 10GbE network connections for maximum reliability & performance

VSA Agent

  • Seamlessly interfaces between server/storage components in single Server/Storage Appliance or mixed Server and Storage Appliances
  • Rapid Setup & Simple Ongoing Operation
  • Ready in minutes for activation of VMS, access control, video analytics & other physical security application via advanced USB media kits
  • Eliminates the risk of misconfiguration of servers & storage, & their integration with physical security applications
  • Eliminates need for extensive PC, storage & other IT skills
  • Eliminates the need for active web connection or cumbersome CDs or DVDs for setup of servers, storage and physical security applications

Replication & Evidentiary Protection

  • Advanced replication enables transfer of recorded video & data from one location to another for review or archiving, without tapes, DVDs, or CDs
  • Video files can be protected from erasure or editing for evidentiary support, eliminating the cost of offline media & risk of media or human error

Advanced Capabilities
